When you visit Santorini, it’s a good idea to go off the beaten track and get out of the biggest towns. Be sure to leave Fira and Oia and explore the island, its history and find great restaurants. There are many charming villages where you can avoid the crowds of tourists – Megalochori, Ammoudi, Emporio to name but a few. Be sure to add Exo Gonia to your list of places to visit.

Enjoy delicious food and a wonderful view

Just six kilometres from the capital, Fira, Exo Gonia overlooks green valleys, the Aegean Sea, Kamari Village and Mesa Vouno Mountain. It’s also home to one of the largest churches on the island, the church of Agios Charalambos. There’s also some high quality cafes and restaurants, including Metaxi Mas, a great place to try traditional Cretan and Santorinian food.

Metaxi Mas has amazing views, a friendly atmosphere, large portion sizes and free-flowing raki!  There’s a wide range of delicious traditional Cretan and Santorinian food to choose from. The salads are very popular – both the Cretan salad and the Pomegranate salad are made from seasonal produce and traditional ingredients. Starters include pan-fried crusted feta cheese and oven-baked Santorini white eggplants.
