This Santorini archaeology tour allows you to visit the most important archaeological areas in Santorini. We will start the tour with a visit to Ancient Thira that is located on a 360m high hill above Kamari. Afterwards we will cross the island and visit Akrotiri.
This remarkably well-preserved ancient Minoan city was buried by a volcanic eruption 3,600 years ago. It was discovered in 1967 near the modern village of Akrotiri. Archaeologists discovered at the site pottery, furniture, advanced drainage systems, and three-story buildings. Many believe the disaster and the site itself were the inspiration behind Plato’s story of Atlantis.
The archaeological site is under a bioclimatic shelter. As a result the visit is enjoyable even during the hottest months of the year.
