Santorini is well-known as a luxury holiday destination, with many stunning hotels and apartments boasting infinity pools and jaw-dropping views. Finding an equally special place to eat can sometimes be difficult when visiting somewhere new. You can find some amazing, award-winning restaurants on the island, serving the highest quality local food and wine with memorable views.
Selene Restaurant, in the picturesque medieval village of Pyrgos (with great views of the south of the island) is celebrating over thirty years of serving exquisite Greek cuisine with a modern twist. In 2010 Selene, owned by Yiorgos and Evelyn Hatziyannakis moved the restaurant from Fira to Pyrgos and separated it into two. Selene Restaurant offers modernist cuisine in the evenings. Selene Meze & Wine, serves mostly traditional dishes and Santorini wines exclusively and is a great option for lunch.
A Blend Of Modernist And Traditional Dishes
At the restaurant, expect a modern, eclectic menu featuring starters like Squid/Fava Risotto (accompanied with wild fennel broth, salami from Lefkada and black mayonnaise), and Cycladic “Spinalio” – with octopus, sea bass, sea urchin, hornbeam, shellfish and yellow pepper sauce. At Meze & Wine, try classic Greek dishes such as Chicken stew (Stifado) and Seafood Youvetsi, a baked speciality featuring shrimps, squid, mussels and sausage.
Award-Winning Greek Cuisine in Santorini
The top quality food and service has been recognised with a variety of awards, including the Greek Cuisine Award (between 2009 and 2016) and the FNL Best Restaurant Award last year. Selene also has a vast array of great reviews in publication such as The Daily Mail and The Greek Gastronomy Guide.
